Monash University Storm will take a new-look leadership group into the 2017 season as the club builds for the future.

Goal shooter Nat Billings has been named as captain of Monash's Championship division team for the first time, having been selected by her teammates after demonstrating both performance and commitment throughout pre-season.

Billings began her VNL career in Monash's 19/U team and worked her way up through Division 1 before playing in the club's Championship team for the first time in 2016.

She will be assisted by Lil O'Sullivan and Clare Pettyfor, who will offer extensive experience by taking on co-vice captain roles.

Billings said she would grasp the captaincy role with both hands and couldn't wait to get on court with her teammates, with only a week remaining until the start of the 2017 VNL season.

"I'm really excited about the team this year and to be leading such a great group of girls," she said.

"The club has really come together this year and I'm looking forward to seeing how all three teams perform in Round 1."

Club captain Maddy Byrne was also selected by her teammates to lead the Division 1 side, with newcomer Kate Fletcher chosen as vice captain.

Midcourter Ailish McCormack will captain the 19/U team, with Victorian 17/U representative Enya Broadley to co-vice captain alongside goaler Daisy Hill, who is representing the Northern Territory at nationals.
